Mekong Cultural Hub

Interactive Sessions – 2025

About the program

In 2025, MCH will organise the fourth Meeting Point on Art & Social Action in Asia. The in-person part of the Meeting Point will take place in Vientiane, from October 16th-18th, and is hosted in collaboration with The XYZ Art Center.

Anticipating the participation of 100-120 individuals, including collaborators, fellows, and voices from across the region, our program is designed to span three days, featuring a spotlight on Laos art scene, curated conferences, creative interventions, a sharing session on Local Gatherings, and many more including interactive sessions.

After an open call process, we selected 6 proposals for interactive sessions. The hosts will meet 3 times online between now and the Meeting Point 2025 in October, in order to build networks and exchange ideas. Please see below for an overview of the sessions and to meet the hosts. Go to SWAPCARD for more information or to register to join Meeting Point.

Modern Fable: Contemporary storytelling through movement

Host by – Noutnapha Soydala  (Laos)

Using movement and dance, participants draw from their life experiences and knowledge, so that we can collectively create new choreographic fables about relevant contemporary issues.

Woven Stories: A cultural bridge through brocade patterns

Host by – Nhan Ho (Vietnam)

Exploring cultural stories woven into the patterns of the Jrai and Bahnar ethnic groups in Vietnam, the facilitators want to share experience in adapting weaving techniques using an Inkle loom. The workshop will explore motifs and stories in Jrai and Bahnar traditions, invite participants to share motifs and stories from other cultures, and to create stories  from the motifs. Participants will get the chance to make a bracelet or a headband.

During this activity, we will collaboratively create a piece of art that embodies each person’s individuality. Frequently Asked Questions

On May 6th, 12th and 14th, we held an Q&A sessions on zoom, where people joined and asked questions to MCH, about the program, the application process and the selection. The questions and answers that were shared during the sessions are listed below:

Who can apply for the Interactive Session open call?

Anyone from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam who works at the intersection of art and social action is welcome to apply. You can be an artist, teacher, researcher, community organizer, or cultural worker. There is no restriction on background or profession.

Can people from different countries apply together?

Yes! You can co-host with someone from another Asian country. At least one lead applicant must be from one of the six focus countries. We welcome collaborations between people from different places.

What is an “interactive session?”

An interactive session is a 90-minute session designed to engage participants in a way where they are actively involved and take part in the session. It’s not just listening to a talk—it’s about doing, sharing, moving, or creating together. It could be a workshop, game, discussion, or any format that encourages two-way (or more!) exchange.

May I know some examples of previous interactive sessions?

Yes. We have shared three examples of the previous interactive sessions in the Program Overview. You can read them for your references, but it doesn’t need to be the same as them.  We look forward to read your design of an interactive session.

Can I include a short presentation or video sharing during my session?

Yes. You can use a short presentation, film clip, or introduction to set the context. But we ask that the majority of the session be interactive, not just one-way communication.

Can I apply more than one idea for an application?

You can send in more than one application, but we think it’s best if you really focus on the one thing you care about most. To make it easy for the selection committee reviewing your application to understand, please make each application about just one idea. Try not to mix different ideas together in a single application.

Do I need to speak in English?

The main working language is English, but you don’t need perfect English. You can communicate in simple English, or you can use part of your micro-grant to hire an interpreter. You can also co-host with someone who feels more comfortable in using English to support the session.

What costs are covered?

If selected, each session host will receive:

  • $300 USD micro-grant (unrestricted use—materials, translation, fees, etc.)
  • Travel, visa, insurance, accommodation, and per diem for up to two hosts to attend the Meeting Point in Vientiane, Laos (October 14–19, 2025)
How and when is the micro-grant paid?

MCH can transfer the micro-grant in advance or give it in cash upon arrival in Laos. For selected hosts from Myanmar, flexible arrangements will be made based on individual circumstances.

What is expected from selected hosts?
  • Run a 90-minute interactive session during Meeting Point
  • Attend three online sessions (July 17, August 21, September 18)
  • Join preparation day on October 15 in Vientiane
  • Be present from October 14 to 19 for the full program and join the meeting point 2025
What happens in the online sessions?

The online sessions help you:

  • Understand the full program and your role
  • Meet the other selected hosts
  • Prepare your session (space setup, materials, timing)
  • Share ideas and build connections before Meeting Point
Can I send information to participants in advance?

Yes. You can request participants to bring objects, read something, or prepare in advance. Meeting Point will use the Swapcard app to share info of programs and communicate with the registered participants. The hosts can also use it to communicate with the participants who registered for their sessions.

How many sessions will be selected?

A total of six interactive sessions will be selected:

  • 3 from Laos
  • 3 from Cambodia, Myanmar, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam
How many participants will attend each session?

Each session will have 20–30 participants, registered from Meeting Point attendees. These sessions are not open to the general public.

Do I need to submit a final report?

No. There is no required report or output. The focus is on creating a meaningful, shared experience during the event. What matters most is the quality of engagement during your session.
