Setting the scene: Contextualising Southeast Asian art community

Organiser(s): An.other Asian
Date: October 27th – 30th, 2022
Location: London
Event Type: both in person and online
The panel discussion is a workshop hosted by artist-led collective An.other Asian. The aim of the workshop is to create a safe space for Southeast Asian artists to connect and collaborate. The workshop will aim to share perspectives from Southeast Asian artists and researchers to advance knowledge and develop responses to regional social and community sustainability issues. The panel will use different perspectives to understand what it means to research art and cultural practice in relation to community building. By critically assessing the histories and genealogies of Southeast Asian art practice, the panel will reflect on the possibilities, opportunities and challenges facing those who carry out, enable, or participate in building Southeast Asian art communities within the UK.
The event will be at The Koppel Project Hive, 26 Holborn Viaduct, London, EC1A 2AT. An exhibition titled The Lost and The Remain will be organised along side the workshop and an open call for Southeast Asian artists living and working in the UK will be published.
