My name is Huỳnh Nguyên Thông, born in 1987 in Vietnam. But you can call me Thong Bahnar – “Bahnar” is the name of an ethnic group in the Central Highlands. I chose this name to show my gratitude to the Bahnar people, who inspired me to reconnect with my cultural roots.
I’m the founder of Thong Bahnar Weaving Culture, a brand that’s been around for 15 years, preserve and develop the traditional hand-weaving culture of the Bahnar people in the Central Highlands.
I used to be a production director at a car factory, but I decided to take a different path – one that leads back to the fading memories of traditional weaving, the ancient patterns that are no longer seen, and the natural dyeing techniques that few people still practice. It’s a journey to revive a cultural heritage that’s slowly disappearing.
